Insomnia!!!!!!

So, for about the last month or so, I've been experiencing restless, sleepless nights where I am not getting a full nights rest. You know, the kind where you fall asleep, but then wake up and toss and turn for hours on end. Then an hour before you need to wake up, your alarm goes off just after you have settled into a somewhat sound sleep only to have to continue yet another day. The process of total exhaustion then repeats and leaves you hoping you can get a try at a good night's sleep that night.

I thought back in December this was due to holiday and finals stress, but now I'm starting to get worried. Really, I know I can't complain too much as many of you experience interruptions in your sleeping patterns due to children; however, there is no reason as to why I should not be getting a full night's rest. It is really getting very frustrating and exhausting throughout the day. I'm starting to get very irritable and it is starting to effect my ability to concentrate and focus on stuff that really needs to get done at work. Any tips on what I should do????? Do I need to go to the doctor? This has never been a problem before. What gives?

  1. I'd talk to your doctor. They make medicine for that

  2. Do you drink alcohol or caffeine before bed time? do you exercise within 3 hrs before bedtime?
do you take sudafed or any other stimulating drug before bedtime? Do you fall asleep watching TV? these are simple things that may be causing it.
Are you sleeping properly aligned? I have to put a pillow between my legs in order to keep my back right, but it really helps me sleep like a baby.

Try sleepy-time tea or smelling lavendar scents before bed, that helps.

Paint your room a shade of purple? that's extreme but insomniacs swear by it.

  3. My dad takes some kind of OTC sleep aid Melatonin that he swears by - but he doesn't use it every day.
I was having problems falling asleep for awhile shortly after I moved to MI - lots of stress happening. I'm the kind of person who will lay there and think about everything that's stressing me out - "OMG I didn't get this done today!" "Crap! What about this?" "Why can't we achieve world peace?" So I made a list of everything that was bothering me every night before I went to bed. It helped me. Plus, it's not like I was going to get up and do work at 2:30 a.m. Heck, I have an office at home and I don't do that now.
Kati and your other friend have some great suggestions. That sleepy-time tea is good stuff.
